Roy Francis is an award-winning former BBC ‘Songs of Praise’ Producer.
During the 1980s he was responsible for the ground-breaking gospel music series, ‘People Get Ready,’ which was shown in Britain on Channel 4 television. Today Roy's production company provides media services for artists, churches, Christian agencies, and corporate businesses. In 2000 Roy staged the ‘Donnie McClurkin live in London,’ CD recording for Verity Records in the United States and filmed and produced the hugely successful, DVD recording of the event. Roy was also part of the team that brought the ‘Amazing Grace’ film to Britain in 2006 which starred, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ioan Gruffudd, Albert Finney, Romola Garai, and Michael Gabon.
Roy is also a gospel music promoter and over the years has staged in concert many of the biggest names in American and British gospel music. Some of the American artists Roy has staged include Fred Hammond, Mary Mary, Kirk Franklyn, Donni McClurkin, Michelle Williams, Helen Baylor, Alvin Slaughter, Virtue, Karen Clark and Trini-Tee 5:7. The British artists are no less impressive, Muyiwa, Graham Kendrick, Tim Hughes, Noel Robinson, The London Community Gospel Choir, The Croydon Adventist Choir and many more.
In 2011 Roy teamed up with ‘Soul Marketing’ to produce the hugely successful, ‘Getting to Know’ series of celebrity events for Black Entertainment Television (BET). Among the guests featured on the shows were, Wendy Williams, Tray Songz and Tracee Ellis Ross. Roy went on to produce the Award-winning, ‘Wendy Williams Live in London’ DVD as part of this series.
Today Roy has added another string to his bow. He is the proud author of two books, 'Windrush and the Black Pentecostal church in Britain’ and ‘How to Make Gospel Music Work for You.’ The first book is a personal account of the early years of the Black Caribbean Christian Church in Britain and the second book is a 'road map' especially written for gospel artists, showing them how they can make a success of their music in today's, digital, internet and social media age.
Roy now spends most of his time writing and researching, developing the next crop of British gospel artists as well as providing high levels of consultancy to the church, businesses and the wider community.
